“[F]undamentally, for me, it's just like vortexing or exploding and then finding the spaces in between. You'd vortex for the quiet moments, and you're just having this intimate one-on-one, and then there's…you know how Wade and Ember both get, where it's just very effusive and celebratory, or scary, or very emotional. But you have to put all of yourself into each level of that, no matter what the 'size' is. So that's where it's like, ‘Oh, this takes quite a bit of focus and energy.’ It's fun, though.” - Athie on how voice acting is hard work in interview with Collider.
This weekend Mamoudou Athie (Specialized Training 2006) hits theaters in Pixar’s new animated film Elemental.
Athie plays Wade Ripple, a member of the water clan, who befriends Ember a member of the fire clan, and their adventures through which they discover how much they have in common.
Mamoudou has consistently appeared on the big screen over the past few years in such films as The Circle with Tom Hanks, Jason Reitman’s The Front Runner with Hugh Jackman, and the trilogy-closing Jurassic World: Dominion.
Elemental was directed by Peter Sohn (The Good Dinosaur) and features Leah Lewis (Nancy Drew) and Catherine O’Hara (Best in Show, Home Alone). Watch the trailer below:
