On the heels of his Golden Globe win earlier this year, Adrien Brody (ST '93) took home the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role at last night's ceremony. Winning for his performance in The Brutalist, the victory adds yet another milestone to Brody’s illustrious career.
The actor first made history with his Oscar-winning turn in The Pianist, becoming the youngest recipient of the Best Actor award at just 29. Over the years, he has delivered memorable performances across a wide range of genres, from the stylish noir of Hollywoodland to the high-stakes action of King Kong. He has also impressed in auteur-driven films like Midnight in Paris, where he portrayed Salvador Dalí, and The Grand Budapest Hotel, one of his many collaborations with Wes Anderson.
Brody’s recent projects span both film and television. On the big screen, he starred as Arthur Miller in Blonde and joined Wes Anderson’s ensemble in Asteroid City. On television, he portrayed Pat Riley in HBO’s Winning Time, had a scene-stealing role in Poker Face, led the gothic horror series Chapelwaite, and played gangster Luca Changretta in Peaky Blinders. He also appeared in Succession as billionaire investor Josh Aaronson.
With this Oscar win, Brody becomes the second member of The Actors Society to receive two Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role, following in the footsteps of Spencer Tracy. His fearless dedication to storytelling keeps audiences captivated, and his best work may still be ahead.
