On October 3, 1884, The Academy opened its doors at Manhattan’s Lyceum Theatre as the first institution of higher learning in the English-speaking world dedicated exclusively to the craft of acting.
Today, we honor our legacy with gratitude for all who have contributed to the Academy’s unparalleled success over a span of 140 years. Actors are essential to our global culture and we’re proud to carry the torch as the foremost conservatory dedicated to the development of the next generation of storytellers.
