“I left Ohio over twenty years ago to chase a dream. “It was a big moment for me when I realized that Ohio wasn’t my home anymore; I’m sure many people who have moved away can relate.”

Late last month, Luke Grimes (Class of 2004) released his second country music single, “Oh Ohio,” which has already amassed over 600,000 listens on Spotify.

“It’s a breakup song but with a place,” Grimes expounded on the song's meaning, “[it’s] less of a song about leaving home and more about losing it…. Knowing your time together is over, but you are a part of each other forever.”

No stranger to music, Grimes grew up playing drums, guitar, and piano at the Pentecostal church where his father was a pastor. He was also a drummer/songwriter for a country band based in LA for a time.

Grimes’ first single, “No Horse to Ride,” was quite successful. From its release in December of 2022, it has reached 15 million global streams, landed at number seven in the Top 10 Country Songs sales chart, and was featured at the number one spot on Spotify’s Country Hits 2023 playlist.

Luke has found great success recently in the acting world with his role as Kayce Dutton in Paramount’s smash-hit Yellowstone. He can also be seen in Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper, The Magnificent Seven, and HBO’s True Blood.
