For Hispanic Heritage Month 2024, The Actors Society recognizes the achievements of both up-and-coming voices and established artists. In the first of two articles, we highlight a few recent graduates as they establish their careers.

Oscar Javier, Cito Mena, Angela Parra
Earlier this fall, SoHo Shakespeare Company (headed by 2012 grad Alex Pepperman) put on Waiting for Lefty. Featuring countless Academy grads, the Clifford Odets drama explored contemporary themes in a reimagined production. Three cast members were members of the Latinx community: Oscar Javier (‘24), Cito Mena (‘24), and Angela Parra (‘24).
The show played from August 22nd through September 8th at The Flea Theater.
Rodolfo Ornelas
The Class of 2023 grad took audiences for a ride with What’s Up, Don Quixote?, a one-man retelling of Don Quixote, the 17th-century tale spun by Miguel de Cervantes. Written by Ornelas and Mario Iván Martínez (the show’s director), the actor slips into 15 roles in the hour-long piece.
The production, intended for children and young audiences, played at The Brisk Festival in August of this year.
Diné Chavez
With a starring role as Captain Robert Camach in A Story As Old As Time, Diné Chavez (‘23) rounds out our list of up-and-coming alumni. The show, directed by Aline Humbert (‘23), played at this year’s Hollywood Fringe Festival. Chavez, who finds himself at home in a comedy, brought nuance to the “questionable” NYPD officer in the play by Neil L. Yuzuk.
