“It's good to be the king!”
The king of parody has returned! Mel Brook’s long-awaited (possibly never conceived until recently) sequel to History of the World Part I, History of the World Part II will be airing tonight on Hulu.
History of the World Part I is a 1981 vignette comedy directed, written, and starring Mel Brooks that parodied everything from the beginning of man to the Spanish inquisition from the Old Testament to the French Revolution. The film featured comedic heavyweights Dom DeLuise, Gregory Hines, and Madeline Khan and was famously narrated by Orson Welles. Part of the joke of the movie was the “Part I” in the title - as there was no planned part two. That is until now!
History of the World Part II will continue in the same vein as the first one. Covering such topics as the Russian revolution, Watergate, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the revelation of what really happened to Amelia Earhart. Amongst the slew of high-profile names in the cast are a few recognizable faces from our alumni community. Danny DeVito (‘66), Arturo Castro (‘07), and Eric Nenninger (‘99) will appear throughout the show but in what capacity, we have yet to learn.
A four-day event, two episodes will drop every day from March 6th to March 9th on Hulu. The show also features Wanda Sykes as Harriet Tubman, Johnny Knoxville as Rasputin, and Taika Waititi as Sigmund Freud. Watch the trailer below:
